Mysterious Doll "Okiku" Grows Hair

Haunted dolls are one of the most famous objects associated with paranormal. My guess is, they probably hold the second spot, right after haunted houses. There is something eerie about dolls in general; add paranormal mix and you have got a recipe for nightmare. We have discussed several different haunted dolls on this blog before (Robert, Anabelle, Mandy, Peggy), but the doll of today's discussion is a little bit different. This doll has more of a magical properties rather than those of a vengeful spirit. Instead of attacking you, she simply - grows hair.

Story of the Okiku doll starts in 1918 in Sapporo, a place on the Japanese island of Hokkaido. That's when a 17 year old boy called Eikichi Suzuki purchased a doll for his two year old sister, Okiku, as a souvenir.As soon as his sister got the doll, she was smitten by it. Allegedly, little girl carried the doll everywhere, played with it everyday and even named the doll after herself, Okiku. It is not enough to say that the girl and the doll were inseparable. Sadly, the following year, little girl got deathly sick and passed away rather quickly.Not long ago after the little girl's passing, her family started noticing something odd. The doll's hair seemed to be longer and longer each day. Originally, the doll's hair was cropped to about shoulder length with neat ends in a traditional Japanese style. However, as time progressed, her hair had grown all the way down to her the knees. Needless to say, the family was a bit alarmed and, therefore, decided to trim the doll's hair back to the original size. However, the doll's hair quickly grew back again down to her knees. At this point, the family concluded that the doll was inhabited by the spirit of their young daughter.
In 1938, the family decided to move. However, they did not want to leave the doll behind. That is when they decided to leave the doll at the Mannenji temple, in the town of Iwamizawa, Hokkaido, Japan. The priest gladly accepted the doll and soon started noticing the strange behavior as well. Okiku's hair continued to grow no matter how many times her hair is trimmed.

According to mysteriousuniverse.org, the doll's hair was even examined and it was determined that her hair was indeed human! Nowadays, the doll still resides at the mentioned temple. She is kept in a modest wooden box attracting people's attention from all around the world.
